An AI background changer separates the subject of a photo from everything behind it and then rebuilds that background, instead of only erasing it. A background remover hands you a cut-out on transparency that you still have to place. A background changer hands you a finished photo: a new surface under the product, new light across the subject, and a shadow where a shadow belongs.
Img ai does both halves in one pass. The model uses your original as a guide and aims to retain the subject while generating the requested scene. Shape, colour and fine details can change. Because subject and background come out of the same pass, the direction of the light usually agrees across the seam — and a disagreeing seam is what gives a pasted cut-out away.

Four ways to set the background
Each mode sends a different instruction to the model. The narrowest mode that describes what you want is usually the fastest route to a usable frame.
Twelve built-in scenes
Six product surfaces — white and grey sweeps, marble, oak, linen and a kitchen counter — plus six wider scenes: retail shelf, office bokeh, city street, golden hour, forest light and a pastel gradient.
Requested solid colours
Type any six-digit hex, or take one of the eight swatches. The value guides generation; exact colour matching is not guaranteed. Verify brand or directory requirements with a pixel editor.
Backgrounds in your own words
Describe the scene in up to 300 characters. Camera and light words carry the most weight: “a quiet bookshelf wall, warm lamp light, softly out of focus” beats “nice office”.
Borrow a scene from a reference photo
Upload a second image and the tool takes its setting, surface and light while using the first image as the subject reference — the mode to use when matching a background you already published.
Where it struggles, stated plainly
- Very fine hair, loose fur, glass and transparent packaging are the hardest edges. Check them on the compare slider before you publish.
- Reflections already in your photo travel with the subject. A bottle that reflected a red wall can still carry red on a white sweep.
- The subject is occasionally reframed or resized a little. If the crop matters, re-run and keep the version that holds it.
- Small text on labels can shift. Read any legible text on the result before it goes on a listing.

What one background change costs
Each background change costs 20 credits and returns one 2K PNG in the aspect ratio you uploaded. Credits come from your Img ai plan, and every tool here draws on the same balance.
The price is on the button before anything is spent, and your balance is checked before the run starts. A run the provider reports as failed returns its credits. A run you cancel, and a run that finishes but returns nothing readable, keep their charge — both are visible in My Creations.
One press is one charge. Pressing twice, losing the response on a bad connection or reloading the page all rejoin the same run instead of starting a second one.
FAQ
Questions people ask before their first run
Does it keep my subject exactly as I shot it?
The model is instructed to preserve your subject, but generative editing can change shape, colour, faces, text and label details. Pixel-identical preservation is not guaranteed. Use the compare slider and inspect important details before publishing.
What can I upload, and what do I get back?
JPG, PNG or WebP up to 20 MB. You get one 2K PNG in the same aspect ratio as your upload, so a portrait crop stays a portrait crop and a square listing image stays square.
Can I set an exact background colour such as #FFFFFF?
Switch to Solid colour and enter a six-digit hex or choose a swatch to guide the model. Output colours can vary; exact pixel values and compliance with application-photo requirements are not guaranteed. Verify the result or use a pixel editor when an exact colour is required.
How well does it handle hair, fur and transparent packaging?
Those are the hardest edges for any tool, this one included, and results vary. A wisp of hair against a busy original is where a soft edge is most likely to show. That is why the result opens next to your original with a slider, and why a second run sometimes lands better.
What happens if a run fails, or I close the tab?
A run is charged once and tied to the task it created. Reloading the page or coming back later rejoins that same task instead of starting a new one, and a run the provider reports as failed returns its credits.
Do I need an account, and where do my photos go?
You need to be signed in, because a run spends credits from your balance. Uploads are stored on Img ai's own storage so the model can read them, and the tool only accepts images uploaded through this site.
